About the role:

As a Senior Hybris Software Engineer, become a part of a cross-functional development team working for the TUI.

Joining the IT Engineering function as the Senior Hybris Engineer, your will be responsible for addressing the technical needs to meet the business requirements and developing the software keeping in mind all the aspects of agile software development lifecycle.  You will be a central part of the team delivering changes across the web stack.


  • You will design and develop systems to support our customer facing websites, web APIs, back-office systems and cloud-based infrastructure. Within an agile development team, you will be developing against a product backlog in Team Foundation Server and submitting changes to the build and release pipeline
  • Your day-to-day role will include software architecture design, implementing new web API functionality, integrating with supplier systems, maintaining the CI processes, managing web hosting infrastructure and enabling the design team to achieve their goals. As an experienced developer, you will take an active part in analysing each backlog item and the definition of tasks. You will also peer review code ensuring it meets against coding standards and make suggestions for architectural improvements. You will be working closely with our other developers, Test Analyst, Product Owners, Management, Social and Marketing
  • On top of this, you will also be allowed to enhance your skill set as you will be allowed designated time each week to help improve your ability and research new technology. With the variety of systems developed and maintained, this role really does present a unique challenge for candidates based locally in the Teesside area
  • You will develop the software for our customer facing websites, web APIs, back- office services and support web optimisation for the cloud-based development. You will be developing against a product backlog of web team and support all essential CI/CD activities to deploy and release the software
  • Your day-to-day job role will be included assisting software design and implementing new functionalities based on the defined business priority. As an experienced developer you will also be part of introducing new Hybris functionalities and module to enhance the business capabilities and technical frameworks. You will be working closely with our other Technical Architects, Solution Architects, developers, offshore team, testers, product owners, scrum masters and delivery managers
  • You will also be part of other web development in Java/ J2EE technologies including web APIs and other service & framework enhancements. You will also be part of the innovation activities essential for developing the new skills & technologies


Essential Skills

  • Hybris Certification is required
  • Experience of system integration technologies, e.g., messaging and web services
  • You should be an expert in Java and be able to write, moderate and coach high quality Java software development
  • Strong experience of Spring (2.5 or above)
  • Experience of ORM frameworks, e.g., Hibernate, JPA
  • Experience of RDBMS, e.g. Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server
  • Expert in Hybris foundational concepts, data modelling with Hybris and integrations
  • Excellent knowledge in Hybris core concepts & commerce concepts, development of extensions & add-ons
  • Expert in Hybris WCMS, Cockpits, Cron jobs, internationalization, personalization, security concepts and REST. Should have experience in Hybris Accelerator
  • Should be strong in Hybris Core modules, ImpEX, FlexibleSearch
  • Outstanding organizational skills for project administration and time estimation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at a senior level
  • You are a proactive and communicative team player with a critical, yet result-oriented and positive attitude
  • Proficient in Linux and Windows Server system administration
  • Collaborated on large scale, multi-project technical solutions throughout the entire development lifecycle from inception to operation
  • Working knowledge of AWS
  • You will have excellent communication, presentation and inter-personal skills; excellent stakeholder management and customer focus; be conscientious, self-motivated and well organised, with a high level of personal integrity and a strong commercial acumen and awareness of business strategy and IT alignment
  • Good understanding of modern design approaches

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience of Spring-MVC
  • Experience of system integrations using JMS, web services, or ETL tools
  • Experience of HTML/CSS/JavaScript/Ajax
  • Experience with B2B and B2C
  • Integrating with 3rd party catalogue management service providers
  • Have configuration management experience—hands on with Puppet, Chef or other cloud-based provisioning tools
  • Scripting in Bash
  • Expertise with variety of build release and management process such as GIT, SVN
  • Experience with build automation tools (Team City/ Hudson, Jenkins)
  • Knowledge of build release and configuration management practices, including branch-based development and patch/merging oriented workflow
  • Practical working knowledge of Architecture & Design principles, Development frameworks and methodologies and the ability to develop ways of working by adopting appropriate best practices on project and programme environments
  • Broad experience of application and infrastructure technologies and the ability to evaluate their applicability to specific problems
  • Understanding of Performance, security requirements and the approaches to ensure they are addressed in Solution Designs


  • BSc/BA degree in computer science, engineering or related discipline or related experience
