Discovering the world’s diversity, exploring new horizons, experiencing foreign countries and cultures: travel broadens the mind. The Senior Java Software Engineer is a practitioner and an advocate of state-of-the-art software development practices, developing software products with a broad toolkit of technologies and methods and with a strong DevOps mindset, being able to tackle the whole software development cycle of designing, building, testing and deploying applications.  Working in an agile environment and keeping up with the ever-evolving technical landscape the Senior Java Software Engineer is a lifelong learner and likes to think outside the box.

Responsibilities

  • As a Senior Software Engineer with a focus on Java/Kotlin, you will be part of a team that fosters engineering skills and capabilities across multiple domains. You will focus on enhancing Developer Experiences by promoting coding standards, best practices, guidelines as well as by creating and maintaining reusable assets like Common Libraries, Code-Generators or bundled Templates
  • Being an enthusiast in software engineering, with a strong DevSecOps mindset, you will support your team in delivering the best solutions to the customers/DevTeams needs. You will take full responsibility for the platform’s assets, from design to operation, striving for high degrees of automation, clean architecture and top-quality outcomes with a customer-centric mindset
  • You will work in a cloud environment, especially AWS, and provide guidance and tools for a resilient and distributed micro-frontend/micro-service architecture. Your role includes researching, evaluating and implementing new approaches, processes and tools to help teams use them effectively
  • You are able to verbalize your thoughts and ideas and take the initiative to translate ideas into outcomes. Together with the domain’s Practice teams as well as the Group Enabler teams, you will research, evaluate and test new approaches, processes and tools, helping teams to use them effectively
  • You love working in an international, multi-cultural team. You constructively challenge ideas and set high standards for yourself and others, always driving for technical excellence, ownership and self-organization at both the team and personal levels. As a lifelong learner, you keep up with the latest developments in engineering

Requirements

Proficiency in Java/Kotlin Development:

  • Advanced Java and Kotlin Skills: Strong expertise in Java and Kotlin programming languages
  • Clean Code Practices: Extensive knowledge of clean-code principles,ensuring maintainable and high-quality codebases
  • Framework Expertise: Experience with modern frameworks like Spring, Micronaut, and Quarkus for building robust and scalable applications
  • API Development: Proficiency in designing and developing APIs, including REST and GraphQL, to enable seamless communication between services

Developer Experience Advocate:

  • Best Practices Evangelist: Promote coding standards, best practices, and guidelines to foster efficient and high-quality software development
  • Tooling and Automation: Ability to design and maintain reusable assets such as libraries, modules and templates that streamline development processes
  • Code Quality: Familiarity with tools like code formatters, linters and package managers to enforce consistency and manage dependencies across projects
  • Knowledge Sharing: Create and maintain documentation, tutorials and training sessions to educate and empower developers in using platform tools effectively
  • Community Building: Proactively build and support engineering communities to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange

AWS Cloud Services Expertise:

  • Cloud Services Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of AWS services,including Lambda, EKS, API Gateway, S3 and others
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Strong experience with IaC tools like Terraform, AWS CDK and CloudFormation to manage and automate cloud resources
  • Kubernetes (K8s): Solid understanding of Kubernetes for container orchestration, encompassing deployment, scaling and management of microservices

Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Mentorship: Ability to mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering growth and knowledge sharing within the team
  • Collaboration: Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including DevTeams from various regions

Problem-Solving and Innovation:

  • Troubleshooting: Excellent problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve complex cloud infrastructure issues
  • Innovation: Proactive in researching, evaluating, and implementing new technologies and approaches to improve platform capabilities

Continuous Learning and Adaptability:

  • Architectural Knowledge: Familiarity with domain-driven design and modern architectural patterns
  • Ethical Awareness: Understanding of the social and ethical implications of software engineering decisions
  • Lifelong Learning: Open-minded, inquisitive, and dedicated to continuous learning and self-improvement
  • Autonomy: Comfortable navigating ambiguity and capable of working independently in fast-paced environments
