About the role:

As a Senior PHP Developer , become a part of a cross-functional development team engineering experiences of tomorrow.

Our team working for a prominent Swedish company headquartered in Malta. The company specializes in providing top-tier casino games, online slots, poker, blackjack, sports betting, bingo, and more, with a strong emphasis on player protection and responsible gaming.
In this role, you’ll contribute to innovative, in-house projects, driving the design and development of new features, writing high-quality code, conducting thorough code reviews, and tackling complex problems. You’ll also play a critical role in ensuring system stability, debugging issues, and delivering robust, well-architected solutions. You’ll be part of a collaborative team focused on payment integrations and cutting-edge features, all while working in an agile environment. Our backend leverages a modern LEMP stack and GraphQL, with Vue.js powering our front end. As part of a curious and forward-thinking team, you’ll have opportunities to explore and adopt new technologies to enhance our stack and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze website and application requirements to define technical solutions
  • Design, develop, and maintain efficient, testable, and reusable PHP modules
  • Tackle complex performance issues and address architectural challenges
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application and code issues swiftly and effectively
  • Integrate data storage solutions, including databases and key-value stores
  • Finalize back-end features and rigorously test web applications for reliability
  • Refactor and enhance application features, including optimizing legacy code
  • Track and manage requests, issues, progress, and project changes using project management tools
  • Take ownership of individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables
  • Mentor and coach team members by conducting thorough code reviews and sharing best practices

Requirements

  • Experience in software development for more than  5 years
  • Excellent knowledge of Computer Science, and Computing Theory:
    • Paradigm & Principles (OOP, SOLID)
    • Database theory (RDBMS, NoSQL)
    • Code testing practices
    • Algorithms & data structures
    • Architectural, Enterprise, and Design Patterns
    • Security patterns, Reverse engineering resistance, Common attack types (OWASP)
  • Understanding of network interactions:
    • Protocols & conventions (e.g. REST, RPC)
    • Authentication and authorization flows
    • Standards and practices (e.g. oAuth, JWT)
  • Excellent knowledge and experience in PHP (more than 4 years)
  • Practical commercial experience with:
    • REST API development
    • Web application frameworks (e.g. Symfony, Laravel) (more than 4 years)
    • Front-end technologies including CSS3, JavaScript, and HTML5
    • Testing frameworks (e.g. PHPUnit, Codeception, Behat, Dusk) (more than 4 years)
    • ORM (e.g. Doctrine, Eloquent) (more than 3 years)
    • RDBMS (e.g MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MS SQL) (more than 4 years)
    • Key-value storages (e.g. Redis, Memcached)
    • Version control systems (GIT)
    • Cloud computing platforms (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure)
    • Continuous Integration tools (e.g. Gitlab Pipeline, Jenkins, TeamCity, Bamboo)
  • Experience with:
    • Troubleshooting, profiling and debugging applications
    • Agile software processes and technologies
    • Creation of software architecture and design of complex applications, platforms, and microservices solutions
    • Code Review process
    • Refactoring process
  • Fluent or Upper-Intermediate English

Desirable

  • Certifications on:
    • Symfony Framework
    • Zend PHP
    • Cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure)
  • Understanding of orchestration and containerization (e.g. Kubernetes, Swarm)
  • Knowledge of Deployment patterns
  • Practical commercial experience with:
    • GraphQL
    • NoSQL (e.g. MongoDB, ElasticSearch, CouchDB)
    • Experience with Search Engines (e.g. ElasticSearch, Azure Search, Apache Solr)
    • Provisioning tools (e.g. Terraform, Ansible)
    • Quality tools (e.g. SonarQube)
